The one way or security screw industry is about to have a steep incline if the general public listen and follow recommendation of Queensland police based at Coomera.
There has been a sharp rise in the number of incidences of fuel theft in drive offs in service stations where the offender is sporting a set of stolen number plates.
This has the Coomera police concerned.
Unofficial figures show in the last six months at least 188 reports to Queensland transport for stolen plates had occurred in the area, said Coomera police district crime prevention co ordinator Martin Webb. And could be compared to the 364 for the Gold Coast police district.
The police are reminding vehicle owners that if they deregister or dispose of an unregistered vehicle to remember to remove and take the plates back Queensland transport.
Stolen plates are used by the thieves not only to get away with unpaid petrol but also toll fees and other charges connected to the registration plates.
The police are recommending vehicle owners fit their plates using the one way security screw. These can now not only be supplied by your local locksmith and local auto parts dealers, but also local police and auto dealers.
Coomera police district have volunteers running programs to teach motorists in the use of one way screws on motor vehicles.
To further encourage this now new requirement for securing not only property from being stolen, but to also from its being used for further unlawful acts that could have the owner being held responsible.
